One of the most iconic shows of all time is without a doubt the 1990s sitcom ‘FRIENDS’. The show was a huge success and has spawned millions upon millions of fans from around the world.  The show spanned for 10 seasons, with a total of 225 episodes and a 2021 reunion special, which saw the cast reunite for the first time since the completion of the show in 2004. The show holds a special place in my heart, due to its cultural relevance, characters and its incredibly catchy theme, ‘I’ll be there for you by the Rembrandts. The shows characters, Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Joey and Monica are the archetypes for every sitcom that has proceeded this show, which is a testament to the shows writing team. I love ‘How I Met Your Mother’, but come on, it’s just Friends with a twist. The cultural significance of the show has extended across the globe, with the airwaves still showing re-runs from the sitcom in hundreds of countries. I still remember coming home from school and flicking on the tv to find re-runs showing all the time and when they had done a full series run, it would start over again and I was okay with that because I would just start watching it again and again. Due to the show's overwhelming popularity, merchandise has been a huge player in keeping the show as relevant as it still is today. You can get a number of different FRIENDs related merchandise, and today I am going to highlight my 6 favourite items that you can currently purchase from Sanity.

Friends Monopoly – At this point, there is a Monopoly for everything. If it’s a movie, tv-show, book, game or even your favourite sports team, you can almost guarantee there is a Monopoly version of it. So naturally, of course, there is a Monopoly for Friends and boy is it fun! You can buy your favourite episodes, which I find to be very unique and different. The game is also filled with tonnes of references as well, which will appease die-hard fans of the show and maybe even entice those who haven’t seen the show before.

Friends Boxset – You aren’t a real FRIENDS fan unless you own the entire show on Blu-Ray or DVD. There have been many editions of the Friends complete series over the years, but there hasn’t been a set quite like the one now available from Sanity now! The set includes all 10 seasons with a tonne of great special features, and it all comes neatly packaged in a great display box that you can proudly display on your bookshelf or even next to your tv. As a huge fan of the show, I think this is the definitive set for fans as it contains everything you are looking for. Commentaries, interviews, gag reels and remastered episodes of the show, which look amazing, especially on Blu-Ray.

Friend Pop Vinyls – I am a big fan of Funkos Pop Vinyls. Owning countless Pops of all my favourite characters. There are Pop Vinyls available for pretty much every show that has ever existed, Friends included. There have been a few different versions of these pops, but my favourites without a doubt, are the Halloween costume figurines. We have Catwoman Monica, Supergirl Phoebe and Sputnik Ross. These Pop Vinyls are great with fantastic detail shown on each of the characters, making them identifiable even to people who aren’t as in tune with the show.

Friends jigsaw Puzzle – I love a good jigsaw Puzzle, and I think my favourite out there relating to the show is the ‘central perk Group’ puzzle. This is one of the most famous pieces of promotional material from the show and I think it captures each of the characters in a good light. The image was taken at the height of the show's popularity in the late 1990s. The image is a relic in its own right, showcasing the fashion and the style of the time period. It is a great piece of the Friends pop culture phenomenon (excuse the pun). I love this puzzle and I think it’s a great puzzle for fans of the show. Though after you have finished it, there is no way you will be packing it up, you will have to get it framed!

Friends Forever (Hardcover Book) – I love a good book, especially one that highlights something I truly love. This book breaks down the greatest moments in the show. There are episode break downs, which explore behind the scenes stills, quotes and comments from the cast and crew. This is a great coffee table book and a great collector’s item for fans of the show. It allows you to explore the show without watching it and sometimes that is a lot of fun, especially as you can insert your own memories of watching these episodes for the first time whilst reading it. This is a must-have for fans of the show!

Friends Central Perk Mug – Last but certainly not least is the Friends Central Perk Coffee Mug. This mug is the perfect piece to top off your Friends merchandise collection. Even if you are not a fan of the other items, this one here has a bit more of a practical use than others. You can take this one to work, which will instantly be a conversation starter, you can use it at home. Wherever it may be, the mug will provide you with a lot of good memories. The Central Perk logo is iconic and will instantly have you singing the Friends theme as soon as you see it. I love the idea of having an everyday item like this representing something you love because even when the going gets tough, you can look at it, use it, and instantly memories of one of the best shows of all time start flooding back and for me, it instantly puts a smile on my face. This is another must-have for fans of the show.

Whether you love it or you hate it, there is no denying the cultural impact that ‘FRIENDS’ has had on people all over the world. It is a masterclass of comedy, with some of the best characters ever written doing their thing and coping with everyday life. It’s a comfort show, one you can have on in the background, one you can re-watch annually and one that holds a very special place in my heart.
