The latest addition to ABC Classics’ Mozart Concertos series: Mozart’s Concerto No. 7 in F major, for two pianos, KV242.

The concerto was originally written for three pianos and orchestra – Mozart created this two-piano version later, so he could perform it in public with his sister Nannerl. But despite the multiple pianos required, this music was composed not for the concert hall, but for a private drawing room, to be played by Countess Antonia Lodron – the leading light of Salzburg’s leading salon – and her two daughters. This gives it a real intimacy and charm. The orchestra gladly makes way for the soloists, allowing the pianos to engage in an elegant and stylish conversation that impresses by its brilliance while seducing with its beauty.

The Mozart Concertos series features leading Australian orchestras in collaboration with some of the world’s finest soloists and conductors, both local and international.
