Sony Music Entertainment Australia have announced that they will release the soundtrack from the Australian film, THE SAPPHIRES on JULY 27, 2012. THE SAPPHIRES soundtrack, which features all the music as seen in the film, is a collection of Soul Classics that defines a generation. With classics such as Heard It Through The Grapevine, What A Man and Ill Take You There performed by one of the films stars, Jessica Mauboy, THE SAPPHIRES Soundtrack is shaping up to be one of the biggest albums of the year.
Set in 1968, music is integral to the feel good Aussie film that follows four young Aboriginal girls; ‘The Sapphires’, through a turbulent time in history set to the backdrop of some of the greatest hits of the 60’s. In addition to the songs from the film, the soundtrack will also feature the track Gotcha, written by Jessica Mauboy along with Ilan Kidron from the Potbelleez and Louis Schoorl, which was inspired by songs from the film.
Making it’s debut at the midnight screening at the Cannes International film festival, THE SAPPHIRES received a standing ovation following a special Gala Screening. The only Australian feature film selected for this year’s festival, THE SAPPHIRES is already making waves around the world with The Times describing the soundtrack as “…an infectious collection of soul classics. This is the kind of film that makes you want to leap from your seat and shout for joy”. The Times, May 25, 2012.
