After six successful albums as part of English rock band SUPERGRASS, Gaz Coombes releases his debut solo album ‘Gaz Coombes Presents… Here Come The Bombs’. Produced alongside Sam Williams, with whom Coombes first worked with on the #1 Supergrass debut ‘I Should Coco’; ‘Here Come The Bombs’ represents a continuation of his day-to-day life in music and Coombes’ sonic experimentations. Supergrass formed in 1993 in Oxford, and their debut album, 1995’s ‘I Should Coco’ debuted at #1 in the charts and further albums allowed the band to establish themselves as one of the most influential and successful alternative rock bands to come out of England in the 90s.
Recorded at Coombes’s home studio and at Williams’s Temple Studio (Oxford), the album explores the unexpected whilst maintaining the famous love of melody that marked some of Supergrass’s finest moments. The off-kilter time signature of lead single “Hot Fruit” is a powerful statement of intent providing a suitably leftfield calling card for the album. The album reverberates with Coombes’s sonic experimentations featuring pulsating grooves cut with distorted guitars, rhythmic, near spoken vocals and cinematic, sci-fi induced soundscape.
