DESCRIPTION

M is the highest paid professional of the many girls at Scarlet’s but, even on her 25th birthday, it’s business as usual. M’s trade is sex, but sex doesn’t sell the way it used to - what clients are searching for, paying for… is love. Instead of celebrating, M’s day is spent answering the silent prayers of Father Phillip, who has lost his faith and providing counsel to her colleagues, the vivacious Lily and troubled Cindy. Amidst the many dramas that unfold and the demands of the 'no-nonsense' Scarlet, M's secret birthday wish goes unanswered. That is, until Joey knocks on her door; a young man, forgotten by the world, who has never learned to love, or even how to kiss. But Joey also has a secret, it's his Birthday too, and today M may just discover that even the smallest, most unexpected of wishes can come true.

Best movie of 2011! Must have!

By  Cinema Baby

I saw a lot of movies in 2011 but this was by the best film I saw at the cinema. It's definitely not what you'd expect from the subject matter. Birthday is a surprisingly heart-warming film that is beautifully realised in every way. I'm not normally a fan of nudity in films but this film has the most delicate and exquisite nude scene I've ever seen in a film and it portrays a real woman, not some photoshopped or SG'd superhuman. The whole film is like that - it moves you in ways you never see coming. It's a revelation from beginning to end. These days, it feels like movies keep getting dumber and dumber but this film is intelligent while telling a story everyone can relate to somehow, about a world most people never get to see. It's poetic and magical. If you missed this at the cinema, you just have to buy this DVD. It will be the best purchase you make all year.

It's A Masterpiece

By  Cinephile

I saw this movie at Trak Cinema in Adelaide and it knocked off my feet. The writing, directing and acting are superb. The story seems simple but the film has so much to say. The ending made me cry but I have to say they were tears of joy because the ending is so full of hope and promise. The cast is full of well-known Aussie Actors including Chantal Contourri but I'd never seen the lead actress before. Her name is Natalie Eleftheriadis and I note she deservedly one Best Actor in Cannes for her performance. She's breathtaking in this film and I'm sure that she's going to be a big star. I simply cannot recommend this film highly enough. Everyone should see it. Loved it!
