The KGB has uncovered a long-forgotten Glasnost training facility in Moscow which mirrors 1960s London. Its purpose was to train sleeper agents to assimilate into British society, but two of them never made it home. Now more British than Soviet, one has become a high-flying financier, the other a prominent trade union leader. The last thing they want is to come in from the cold, leading to a cross-country chase by the KGB & MI5.
EPISODE 1: Two highly trained Russian spies were sent to England back in the sixties - the time of the Cold War, the Mini and the Beatles, where they have now, in the post-glasnost era, become more English than the English. Under an assumed identity, Vladimir Zelensky was sent to the industrial heartland of Britain where he settled as Albert Robinson with an unsuspecting and loving wife Sandra. His co-conspirator Sergei Rublev, alias Jeremy Coward, was entrusted with penetrating the financial institutions of the City, where he became very content with the trappings of success. The two unlikely 'sleepers are forgotten by their Soviet masters. That is until, over two decades later in the dusty vaults of the Kremlin, the chance discovery of a secret training room, puts the KGB on the trail of our hapless heroes. The beautiful but coldly efficient Major Nina Grishina is sent to find them.
EPISODE 2: Jeremy/Sergei and Albert/Vladimir are determined to keep a low profile, but when their reunion celebrations are reported on the back page of the Northamptonshire Bugle, the KGB net tightens. However, the Soviets are not the only ones interested in these two agents - the CIA is on the case and MI5 have noticed that something is amiss.
EPISODE 3: Jeremy and Albert are now on the run with Morris beside them as their ascot, but the KGB are in hot pursuit in the shape of Major Grishina, but they are not the only ones. The CIA, MI5 and Albert's wife Sandra are on the trail, each with their different conclusions as to what's really going on as the reluctant travelling companions head for Scotland.
EPISODE 4: Major Grishina is closing in on her quarry. Jeremy and Albert, the two reluctant spies, try to elude her, but their capture seems inevitable. And what will happen to them if they are caught? A trip back to the Kremlin perhaps, where their old 'control' Zorin, the mastermind behind all the madness, is waiting? Their future, in Russia or England, would be in his hands. The mystery begins to unravel and we see the real reason for his sending 'Sleepers' to England. Meanwhile CIA and the MI5 are getting into deeper water with each other and a rebellious vicar in the country.
