Season 4 begins two and a half years after the death of Tom Shayes. Ellen Parsons has a new job and a new boyfriend. She now works for Nye & Everett but feels that the company does not respect her legal input. She begins to take interest in Howard Erickson and his private military company High Star. Ellen's high school friend, Chris Sanchez, has recently left High Star and she begins to reconnect her relationship with him as to get closer to the company's secrets. Howard Erickson tries to renew his company's contracts with the government with help from Jerry Boorman, a ruthless mercenary. Meanwhile Patty, still having the reigns at Hewes and Associates, advises Ellen not to look into the company, as they are extremely dangerous. Patty herself struggles to find a nanny for her two-year old granddaughter, Catherine.
