Girls Own War Stories are the intimate recollections of ten young women and how the Second World War changed their lives forever. Each experienced new opportunities and new challenges and in doing so learnt to stand on their own two feet and by wars end, they would no longer accept being treated as second-class citizens. The Second World War became the greatest social catalyst ever for Australian women, and it was these women who helped lay the foundations for the making of a new outward-looking Australia. Their stories will change the way we think about women, men and war in the twentieth century.
