Emilia (Natalie Portman 2010 Academy Award® winning Best Actress Black Swan) and her husband John (Scott Cohen - Love and Other Drugs) struggle to keep their lives together after the unexpected SIDS death of their 3-day old daughter Isabel. Complicating the situation is John’s son Jack (Charlie Tahan - Charlie St.Cloud) who primarily lives with his mother Carolyne (Lisa Kudrow - Easy A), a doctor.

Emilia has the responsibility of collecting Jack from his school where she encounters snide glances and whispers from some other mothers - Emilia and John’s relationship began as an office affair whilst he was still married. Worse still, as hard as she tries to be a good step-parent to the boy, her efforts are hindered by the fact that Jack serves as his mother’s mouthpiece, and at times speaks in a very off-hand and cruel way about Isabel’s death.
