On Ohau, Hawaii, the north shore is famous for its waves. During winter, they can reach up to 50 feet. Surfing there used to be a rite of passage for a few but as the decades passed, more and more came for the ride of their lives and now the coastline holds the Triple Crown the last 3 surfing contests of the year. 400 surfers confront their fears and take to the water. Along with near drownings, broken boards and stitches, dreams and nightmares come true as paradise is found, or lost, in the 55 days of competition.
