Why should you buy this record? I'll tell you why because Bronx Cheer are the happiest group in town. They make Mungo Jerry sound like manic depressives. The group are a left over from the fifties, gospellers of the good times. Basically a jug band, Bronx Cheer also have an irresistible brand of acoustic rock and roll. There's a touch of John Sebastian, a streak of Nilsson, a soupcon of the Temperance Seven. The album didn't make the charts but there was enough interest at the time to record a second LP, although politics left it on the shelf. Thus those tracks receive their first airing here, and they are even more dynamic than the first LP. This collection stands up on its own, the interest sustained from blues and roots clubs performances in latter years by Brian Cookman. In addition the market for this music has been buoyed by reissues of Mungo Jerry albums/singles, and alumni such as Paul King. First time on CD. Includes 9 previously unreleased tracks.
