On My Way To Houston

Powell St. John is an inductee of the Texas Music Hall Of Fame, having enjoyed an auspicious career alongside various titans in American music (St. John began his career playing at Austin's Threadgill's Bar, performing in a trio with Janis Joplin and Lanny Wiggins). In addition to pursuing a career in his own band, Mother Earth, St. John made a name for himself as a songwriter, contributing five songs to the first two albums by the 13th Floor Elevators, and later going on to be covered by Roky Erickson, Boz Scaggs and his old pal Janis Joplin. This album was recorded in Oakland in conjunction with former members of Roky Erickson's band The Aliens and finds the veteran singer-songwriter in good form after all these years, rocking out in fine bluesy fashion on the likes of 'On My Way To Houston' and 'Song Of The Silver Surfer' while turning loose some statesman-like country jaunts such as 'Jerry Lightfoot' and 'Ballad Of Travis Rivers'.
