Just like his cousin Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley started at the piano at about ten years of age along with another cousin, the now discredited evangelist, Rev. Jimmy Swaggart. He worked as a mechanic until he saw the money Jerry Lee was making from rock'n'roll and decided to pursue a music career. After paying his dues all around the south, Mickey Gilley finally scored a big break when he was approached to re-open Sherry's Club in Pasadene as Gilley's Club. He did and it became "The World's Biggest Honky Tonk". His first #1 hit Room Full Of Roses came in 1974 and was followed by three more consecutive #1's. As a result of these and many more hits, Mickey Gilley was named "Male Vocalist of the Year" and "Entertainer of the Year" in 1976. The hits kept on coming right through to 1986, partly due to the advent and success of the movie 'Urban Cowboy' in which he had a cameo role and which was based on Gilley's Club. Whilst he was also a successful songwriter, Mickey had remarkable success on the charts, as represented by this collection of some of his biggest hits.
