Edgar Sims, a burned-out investigative journalist, travels into the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, researching folklore of the mountain people and searching for new meaning in life. He meets Old Tom Tucker, an enigmatic hermit who shares bizarre and macabre stories about mysterious portals, ancient beings, and terrifying creatures that exist in the Appalachian wilderness. Tom insists his stories are true and challenges Edgar's preconceived beliefs on the nature of reality and the origins of human civilization.
Tom wagers a hidden valley exists where Edgar will find hard evidence to support his outlandish claims, as well as untold treasure and answers to his life questions. Edgar's quest for quaint legends quickly descends into a reality far stranger and more dangerous than he ever imagined as he embarks on a search for the hidden valley.
