In 1990, Robert De Niro saw Chazz Palminteri's one-man show A Bronx Tale, and declared it one of the greatest one-man shows I've ever seen, if not the greatest. Soon, the two men began working to adapt it into a film, with Palminteri scripting, De Niro directing, and both performing, respectively portraying the adult figures fighting over the destiny of young Calogero. Legendary film critic Roger Ebert gave it a perfect score, calling it very funny and very touching.
