Shamans In Space

This album is the result of an intercultural encounter, a dialog between worlds through sound. The collaboration grew out of the "Sounding Futures" project, which brought together elders from the indigenous communities of Guarani and Kaiowá from Brazil with British electronic pioneers Youth (Martin Glover) and Matt Black (Coldcut).

What makes the project so fundamentally different is the intensity of its collaborative process. A key condition was that the most sacred chants - understood as powerful incantations - were not to be remixed or otherwise altered. This respect characterized the entire production. The shamans acted as intellectual guides and cosmic curators of their ancestral sounds, examining each track in detail and giving instructions for the final arrangements.

The result is a truly collaborative album; a testament to the power of sound to open dialogs between worlds and make new realities audible, conceivable and possible.
