The Melbourne Racing Club has evolved from a swampland into the most progressive and richest racing establishment in the nation. The club has weathered wars, fires, financial woes and other setbacks to become a goliath of the racing industry. However, the fabric of the club’s history revolves around those who have contributed to the core business of racing: the horses, trainers, jockeys and administrators.
Add the colour of the bookmakers, the skill of the starters and handicappers, the flamboyance of race broadcasters and the dedication of the stewards and the club clearly has been fortunate to have had a wide mixture of talented professionals.
