Part I presents a background of theories of organization and of management, stressing elements generic to all organizations, and with the object of offering a ‘frame of reference’ for considering the nature of administration. Part II begins with a discussion of the characteristics of social work agencies as distinct from organizations of other kinds and moves on from there to consider the specific function and tasks of the administrator. This is an important introductory volume for students of social work.
