Throughout his career, the renowned American sculptor Richard Serra has kept a vast collection of notebooks, now filling an entire library in his studio. These notebooks contain delicate sketches from his travels, capturing landscapes, architecture, and nascent ideas, some of which evolved into his mature sculptures and drawings. Serra has personally selected three notebooks—two from Iceland in 1989 and a recent one from Qatar—reproduced here in facsimile, offering a rare glimpse into the artist’s creative process.
