AUTHOR: Sooja Gen was born in Fukuoka prefecture in Kyushu, Japan, during the Korean War (1950 53). Growing up in Tokyo, she was educated to university level in Japan before pursuing postgraduate studies in Europe, where she obtained a Master's degree in Intellectual History from Sussex University in 1977. During the 1980s and 1990s, Sooja worked in the City of London's financial district, but retained close professional and personal ties with her home country.
