Explore the fascinating world of Japanese military uniforms with this expertly crafted book, the ultimate resource for enthusiasts, historians, and modellers alike. Spanning the years 1930 to 1945, this definitive edition showcases the meticulous research and detailed illustrations of the late Ritta Nakanishi, a renowned expert in the field. Unlike many other works, this book provides a systematic exploration of the uniforms used by the Japanese Army and Navy during the Pacific War. From ceremonial formal wear and standard military uniforms to specialized garments like flight suits, paratrooper gear, and the attire of naval landing troops, this comprehensive volume offers unparalleled insights into every aspect of military dress. Packed with details on construction, usage, and wearing methods, it goes beyond simple photographs and artifacts to uncover the finer points that often go unnoticed. Whether you're a modeler, filmmaker, illustrator, or simply a history enthusiast, this book serves as an invaluable reference guide for bringing historical accuracy to your projects. Richly illustrated and thoughtfully organized, this is more than just a book - it's a gateway to understanding the legacy of Japan's wartime military attire. Perfect for collectors and anyone seeking a deeper appreciation of the Pacific War's cultural and historical context. Features over 1,000 colour and b/w drawings. AUTHOR: Born in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture in 1934, Ritta Nakanishi developed a passion for art early, influenced by his adoptive father and captivated by military illustrations. He studied at Musashino Art University, graduating in 1952. After working in textile and comic illustration, he joined Gakken's editorial department in 1962, later focusing on military illustration. His serialized 'Japanese Military Uniforms' (1972, Hobby Japan) led to acclaimed works like Japanese Military Uniforms: Bakumatsu to the Russo-Japanese War (1997, revised 2006). His final major work, The History of Japanese Armour (Vol. 1), was published in 2008 before his passing at age 74. 622 b/w illustrations, 4 b/w photos, 497 colour illustrations, 1 table
