However, many have been alarmed by the widespread expression of unfounded ideas globally. Impossible to Believe explores key belief systems—such as contemporary religion, politics, and popular culture—questioning how these areas have been transformed. It starts with Guy Debord’s The Society of the Spectacle and extends into the present, addressing the influence of digital culture and debt on our lives. Under neoliberalism, spectacular life has replaced rational debate, shifting our focus from being to having, with homo economicus now eclipsed by homo consumptor.
