'When I Was Born For The Seventh Time' swept all before it on its release in the late summer of 1997. Praised by critics and the listening public alike, it topped polls and warmed hearts all over the world with its winning and entirely original blend of beat, melodic charm, infectious good humour and inventive range of musical moods. To mention just two of the many plaudits that came its way, it was voted 'Best Album Of The Year' by 'Spin' magazine in the USA and nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in the UK. To date it has sold 150,000 in the UK, 200,000 in America and many thousands more around the globe. Since then, Tjinder Singh has been keeping busy with a Clinton album and the inauguration of his Meccico record label. He put out a handful of turntable scratched white labels, and spent six months living in Paris. At the beginning of 2001 recording commenced on the eagerly awaited new Cornershop material. Tjinder Singh wrote and produced all thirteen new cuts, which incorporate Cornershop's trademark electric-boogie mix of styles. 'Handcream for A Generation' features Oasis' Noel Gallagher on the 14-minute epic 'Spectral Mornings' (who rumour has it actually turned up in the studio for a few hours and promtly left without payment) , original Oasis bassist Guigsy on the first single, 'Lessons Learned From Rocky I to Rocky III', and U.S. soul legend Otis Clay on opener 'Heavy Soup'. Turntablist Rob Swift of New York's X-Men also joins Tjinder in co-producing 'Wog.com' and 'Slip The Drummer One'.
