Lucy has grown up next door to brothers Jamie and Tom, who are rivals for her affection.

But it is 1936, and Tom decides he must travel to Spain to fight. He is quickly followed by Jamie who, much to Lucy's despair, is on the opposing side supporting General Franco.

The only way she can save them both is to join them in Spain and bring them home to safety.

She soon discovers that there is more at stake than her own aching heart, however, as she becomes immersed in lifesaving work with child refugees.

As the war progresses and the situation becomes increasingly perilous, Lucy realises that her greatest challenge will not be in persuading Tom or Jamie to return to England with her - but whether any of them will even survive . . .
