Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem is the chairman CEO of DP World, which he founded 25 years ago and which now handles 11.5 per cent of world trade, more than $3.7 trillion of goods every year. At its heart is the port of Jebel Ali. Dismissed as a ‘white elephant’ when bin Sulayem joined as a humble customs official in 1982, it is currently ranked fifth in the world as a commercial maritime shipping centre.
