Counterparts A Eulogy For Those Still Here CD

The Hamilton, Ontario-based metalcore heavyweights have announced their upcoming full-length, A Eulogy For Those Still Here, from Pure Noise Records. The record finds Counterparts tapping into a deep sense of uncertainty and dread and pushing their visceral sound to even greater extremes to make their most definitive statement yet.

SINGLE #1: "The Unwavering Vow” Quite simply, this song is about revenge. Too often I spiral into a dark place when I so badly seek retribution from someone or something that has wronged me in the past. This song is about my realization that not only is a lust for revenge unhealthy, but unnecessary. I feel like it’s human nature to want to reciprocate the hurt back onto those who made you feel that way, but more often than not you will find that life will sort them out without you having to lift a finger.

For myself, there are many people in my life who I feel deserve that, but I am content with knowing that even though I may not be able to physically act on my feelings, they will get theirs in time… which leaves me free of consequence.

SINGLE #2: "Whispers of your Death" I feel like anyone who has been following the band/me pre-pandemic knew this was coming, but this song is about my cat Kuma. My ex and I rescued him just under 2 years ago and he is hands down the sole reason I stuck around long enough to even make this record. Shortly after he was rescued, we developed a special bond and now I can’t imagine my life without him. Unfortunately in the first few months we had him, he became very sick and almost died due to complications of a blood parasite while being FIV positive. Nobody believed he would make it… but luckily he is still here with us and currently doing great. Being his dad is hands down the most important thing I’ve ever done in my life and also what I am most proud of. I love him more than anything in the world and this song is my tribute to him for quite literally giving me a reason to live. 07/26/2020.

SINGLE #3: "Bound to the Burn” Bound To The Burn is about my personal frustrations that come with playing music for a living. I’m sure it goes without saying, but I do love being a part of Counterparts… though sometimes I feel like Counterparts/I are easily replaceable in the world of heavy music. This song is a metaphor for how I’ve let the pressure of churning out new music and constantly being on the road “kill” me in a sense. But here I am, still “bound to the burn” because when I DO consider the other options I have for a career, I end up drawing a

FOCUS TRACK # "A Mass Grave of Saints” My struggle in the studio with this record came to a head with this song. I started to doubt my ability not only as a vocalist, but also as a lyricist/contributing member to this band. I wrote this song from the perspective of IF this is the last Counterparts record that we release, I will be fine with that. Counterparts is without question the only real constant I’ve had for over half my life, but I feel like I have given all that I can both physically and mentally and I fear that the well has run dry. Who knows what will happen, maybe I’ll look back on the lyrics to this song and laugh about how wrong I was… but in the event that this is my last contribution to the band, I feel like you all deserve a proper and final goodbye. Now don’t freak out, I’m not a fucking psychic… BUT if I can’t be honest with you, why am I here? I don’t want this to be that last Counterparts record, but only time will tell. I thank you all sincerely from the bottom of my heart. I have no idea where I would be without your support.
