At War With Reality

At The Gates is undoubtedly one of the most important bands to have ever risen from the death metal scene. After breaking up in 1996, no one could have predicted to extent to which the band's sound would shape the ages - following on from 1995's Slaughter Of The Soul, heavy metal and hardcore would never be the same again. The melodic riffs, the ferocious vocals, and harsh yet clear production would define an entire sound for the next generation.

In the years between the members of the band went on to various projects - The Haunted, Lock Up, Disfear, Cradle of Filth, Nightrage and many more - yet the demand for activity from At The Gates never ceased to grow.

With such a reputation comes huge expectations and unprecendeted pressure. Afer reforming for reunion shows in 2007, the band explicitly stated that they would never record new material. However in early 2014 the first signs of At War With Reality began to drop.

“What we wanted to do was to be old school, but to ensure everything was also up to date,” says vocalist Tomas Lindberg. “Because we didn't want to be rooted in the past." Not only has the original lineup of At The Gates returned with new material, but they have produced material that is stronger than ever, with an even darker tone that is set to redefine the melodic death metal standard once again.
