EFTERKLANG are a four piece band from Copenhagen, Denmark consisting of three childhood friends: Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg. Performing live Efterklang is joined by talented people like Peter Broderick (piano), Budgie (drums), Katinka Fogh Vindelev (choir) and often full symphonic orchestras. The band are signed to British label 4AD, and 'Piramida' is their fourth album release. Along with the new album, Efterklang has also launched 'The Piramida Concerts' which premiered in a unique concert with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Sydney Opera House as part of VIVID FESTIVAL in May 2012. The making of 'Piramida' started in an unusual fa shion in August 2011, when the members of Efterklang went on a nine-day audio expedition to an abandoned Russian settlement in Spitsbergen, an Arctic island located just shy of the North Pole. Spitsbergen is home to more polar bears than people and also to the ghost town of Piramida, which was abandoned overnight in the 90s, and today stands as a slowly decaying ruin. Along with discovering the world's northernmost grand piano, the trio spent nine days exploring and recording the sounds that would inspire and build the songs on the new album. 'Piramida' is perhaps the band's greatest achievement: an album bringing the outside in, informed by frozen time and the relics humanity leaves in its expanding wake.
