Harry Howard and the NDE have been in existence for over a year now. After putting tracks down in 2011 they have finally come to a point where they are ready to thrust the resplendent result into the outer universe. The band are Harry Howard vocals and guitar, Edwina Preston keyboards and vocals, Dave Graney bass, and Clare Moore drums. Harry's song writing is informed by a macrocosm of proto and post punk styles, garage, psychedelia and 'a touch of disco', he has said with a smile. The songs are up-front, simple and memorable with a muscular savvy of their own design. While they deal with often very serious topics (Harry was seriously ill, lost a brother and had major relationship upheavals to deal with during the writing and making of the album) the songs never lose a sense of humour and affirming energy. The band share long and colourful histories, Harry's including involvement with Birthday Party and membership of Crime and the City Solution and his brother Rowland's project These Immortal Souls. Dave Graney and Clare Moore's experiences require no explanation. These three first became friends in the 1980's (when Dave and Clare were in the Moodists) in London, as part of the 'Australians in Europe' music scene that existed at the time. Edwina Preston fronted The Moll Flanders Band in the late 90's. 'I've planned to make a record for a very very long time', says Harry. 'But I'm not what you could call 'quick' at anything and it took a considerable passage of time just to figure out how to come up with material. Followed by another very considerable passage of time to get to the stage of actually having something ready to put out.' Time is a strange business, and the time, as they say, has come.
