Join host and wildlife expert Iolo Williams on a fascinating tour of the spectacular scenery and wildlife of Wales in this remarkable three part series for BBC2. There are few places in the world where one can descend from dramatic mountains, through open moorland, along beautiful streams and rivers, through glorious woodland and out to a spectacular coastline, all in a few hours. Each episode focuses on a particular area of the country, starting with the South, moving through the heart of Wales and finishing in the rugged North West. Amidst the beautiful landscapes of the South and West, Iolo begins his journey in Pembrokeshire with red deer, seals and a rare sighting of the secretive red squirrel. Continuing on to the Brecon Beacons he discovers impressive waterfalls, delicate cave structures and bats hiding in dungeons, as well as nesting hobbies, goshawks and other stunning birds. Travelling into the heart of the country, Iolo reveals dramatic heather moorlands, where he watches one of the finest courtship displays of any bird. He visits the uplands in deepest winter to find one of the worlds most elusive mammals, the stoat, and explores the effects of climate change on the landscape. Finally, Iolo journeys to the rugged North West, traversing dramatic coastal and mountain scenery to find wildlife relics from the last ice age set amongst the iconic scenery of Snowdonia. He travels to the largest conifer plantation in Wales in search of a very shy deer and ends his tour on the ancient Celtic island of Bardsey. Filmed over a year, with stunning aerial and wildlife photography, this outstanding series uncovers a vast array of beautiful habitats and a wealth of wildlife.
