Three Films by Rainer Werner Fassbinder

Three of RW Fassbinder's early works united together in a single release. Each reworking the gangster noir genre, a la the French New Wave, these three Fassbinder films are some of the most interesting and intriguing of the New German Cinema movement. The loose trilogy of Love is Colder Than Death, Gods Of the Plague and The American Soldier, each shot in black and white, represent an iconoclastic artist's journey though narrative and form.
1. Love is Colder Than Death - When small-time pimp Franz Walsch is asked to join his local crime syndicate by mobster Bruno, he finds himself torn between this exciting new opportunity and his prostitute girlfriend, Johanna.
2. Gods Of the Plague - Franz Walsch has been newly released from prison after his girlfriend, Johanna, informed the police of his criminal plans. But despite his rehabilitation, Franz finds himself being sucked back in to his old life.
3. The American Soldier - Ricky, a professional hitman, returns to Germany after fighting for the US in Vietnam. He finds employment with three maverick detectives, who hire Ricky to assassinate the masterminds behind a string of dangerous crimes.
