QUEER AS FOLK – THE FOURTH SEASON reflects the gang’s new-found maturity with a more adult collection of thought-provoking tunes like Suede’s ‘Attitude’, Ima Robot’s ‘Scream’ and Eel’s ‘Love of The Loveless’. However, that’s not to say that Liberty Avenue has lost its groove or its sense of joy. QAF after all is still a celebration of gay life which, of course, includes the occasional all-nighter, hence the inclusion of Origene’s classic ode to after-hours nightlife, ‘Sanctuary’, and Kodo’s tribal ‘Strobe’s Nanafushi’. The spirit of optimism, the unwavering conviction that whatever happens, we will survive is vividly present on this latest cd, including Andrea Menard’s hilariously poignant ‘If I Were A Man’, Reindeer Section’s ‘You Are My Joy’ and Black’s declarative ‘Wonderful Life’. As Sharon Gless’ character, Debbie said – words to remember as we all go from boys to men and girls to women – “Mourn the losses because they are many, but celebrate the victories because they are few.”
