Continuing from Batman V Superman, the world is mourning the sad loss of Superman. Bruce Wayne, AKA Batman (Ben Affleck), has significant concerns about the safety of all people on Earth. Teaming up with Diana, aka Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), to two investigate a new enemy that has appeared and begin to seek help from metahumans who might be able to help. Unlike the previous Justice League (2017), Zack Snyder's Justice League has many new addictions, especially in the film's overall tone, story, and even the film's visuals.
Thankfully, this cut has decreased the amount of humour, and the image is now grittier. As for the runtime, Zack Snyder's cut is lengthy at a surprising four hours and two minutes. I was happy to see Justice League introduce so many new characters from the world of DC Comics, and I feel many fans will also be happy with the outcome. With so many characters, director Zack Snyder has fun taking his time to give each character a solid introduction which I found welcoming rather than the rushed and quick introductions we saw in the last cut from 2017. The characters here are undoubtedly more likeable to watch as they come together and form the ultimate team.
Visually, it comes as no surprise that Zack Snyder's cut is fantastic to look at. Creating a darker film, I excited to announce this version has a grittier look and feel. The director deliberately selected a different aspect ratio, which looks like a 4:3 square box rather than the standard widescreen format like most films today. As stated by Snyder himself, this choice was made to preserve the creative integrity, to make each character even more prominent and give them a prime focus. Those who love a good action film will also be happy with what is on show here.
Thankfully, the audio track is something else. Unlike the digital release, which was streamed originally on Binge Australia, the audio format on the 4K UHD disc is a massive improvement. If you can, I highly suggest watching this film in the premium disc format today to obtain the best experience.
