Number 5 - What goes around.../... comes around by Justin Timberlake

Love them or hate them, NSYNC gave us one of this generation’s greatest talents in Justin Timberlake. The musician turned actor turned icon has been delivering hit after hit since the boy band parted ways. His album ‘future Sex/love sounds’ is a prime example of this. For this list however, we simply can’t ignore his 2006 hit “what goes around comes around”. A song about a relationship turned sour, what goes around comes around has the perfect mix of melody, beat and nostalgia that will make time fly as you clean, especially if you listen to the 7 minute version. 

Number 4 - Crystallise by Lindsey Stirling

Not an obvious choice for this list, but a good one nonetheless. Combining classical music with dubstep, Lindsey Stirling and her violin have proven that music can always offer something new. Her song Crystallise, off her self titled album, is a masterful display of musical brilliance. The soundscape encourages motivation while also prompting you to move and bop along to the strong beats hitting you as the classical violin soothes any stresses cleaning may cause. And with no words, there is no distraction from the job at hand. 

Number 3 - So What by Pink

Pink has been a powerhouse of the music industry for the better part of 20 years. With 8 albums under her belt, she has proven she is a constant hit machine. As large as her catalogue is though, there was really only one choice for this list. “So what” takes us on a wild journey about dealing with a breakup and the things we do when all seems lost. But, more importantly, it’s a song you can belt out at the top of your lungs as you try and distract yourself from how dirty your carpet truly is. Just make sure you aren’t watching the film clip because it’s way too unique not to distract from the actual cleaning. 

Number 2 - Somebody told me by The Killers

Much like Pink, the killers are iconic in the music industry. Their music has been able to reach multiple generations, proving that rock never goes out of fashion. If we’re going for the perfect cleaning song though, we can’t look any further than the forever iconic “somebody told me”. The classic guitar driven rock will have your heart thumping to the beat. Plus this song is seared into our brains, therefore we are singing the lyrics with so little thought that we can concentrate on the current house filth we’re dealing with. 

Number 1 - Push it by Salt-N-Pepa

Arguably the iconic duo's greatest hit, “Push It” has had a long musical journey. It’s initial release as both a b-side and a stand-alone single in the late 1980s saw good success. Yet, it was Salt-N-Pepa’s performance of “Push It” at Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday concert that rocketed this song into the top of the charts. And like a fine wine, this song has only gotten more iconic with age. The song is so simple and so powerful that whenever it comes on you’re almost forced to move to it. Whether it’s vacuuming or scrubbing, “push it” is there to remind you what it is you are doing and will motivate you to finish quickly so you can belt out those classic lyrics.
