Sing 2 - 3 Reasons To Buy It

Illumination animation have been hitting it out of the park now for the best part of a decade. One of their biggest films was 2016s ‘Sing’ which saw a talent agent Buster Moon, a smooth talking koala played by the great Matthew McConaughey, in search for the next big thing in the entertainment world. The film boasted amazing animation, foot-tapping music and a story full of heart. In 2022, we finally got the sequel we have been waiting for, for nearly 6 years with ‘Sing 2’. The film follows Buster Moon and friends once again, as they look to convince Clay Calloway a talented, rocking lion played by Bono to star in their new show. To celebrate the films release on DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K UHD, I am here to tell you why you need to add this flick to your collection. So, without further ado, lets go! 

The music – One of the biggest parts of the first film was the music. The music plays a key part in bringing the story together, with thematic relevance in every song used. We have music here from U2, Elton John, Whitney Houston and Billie Eilish. All of the songs are covers of their original versions, which I also adore. It’s a lot of fun to watch these characters cover some of the biggest hits over the last 30 years. The soundtrack is worth a purchase on its own but is easily one of the best parts of the latest film. 

The voice cast – One of the most underrated elements of any animated film is the cast that is assembled for the film. Sing 2 boasts one of the most impressive casts in any movie releasing in 2022. With the cast including; Scarlett Johansson, Eric Andre, Bono, Matthew McConaughey, Taron Edgerton, Nick Kroll, Reese Witherspoon, Pharrell Williams, Halsey, Letitia Wright, Wes Anderson and Nick Offerman. This cast is awesome, with many of the characters doing double duties of both providing their voice for the performance as well as singing in a the films musical numbers. I was surprised at just how talented some of these individuals were.

The animation – It goes without saying that Illumination Animations output is very impressive. The colours are gorgeous and the movement of the characters is vibrant and beautiful. Sing 2 doesn’t disappoint. The animation remains beautiful and colourful, with some positively gorgeous sequences. The characters all look incredible, with realistic facial expressions and mannerisms. The locations are also gorgeous, with realistic, real world textures added to provide a realistic aesthetic to the film. This provides a bit of fun for the adult members of the audience as well, as they can pin point architectural inspirations for the buildings. The blending of the realistic real-world locations and textures provides a lovely backdrop to our larger than life, cartoonish characters. It’s a nice blend. 

‘Sing 2’ is one of the best animated films released in recent years. Filled with a fun cast of characters, a feel-good and at times inspirational story and a stellar cast. This is a must-have for animation fans and will be sure to keep the kids entertained.
