Movies With The Best Pets

Pets form some of the greatest partnerships with Humans. Who doesn't love an adorable, dewey-eyed creature to partner up with in life? At Sanity, we’re celebrating with a countdown of our top 5 Favourite Movies Starring Pets.

Number 5 - Hedwig (Harry Potter)

Part of what makes a good pet is loyalty. I challenge you to find a more loyal pet than Hedwig. Sticking with Harry through thick and thin, Hedwig never fails to help his owner. Whether it’s sending important messages, providing much needed support or even saving Harry’s life, Hedwig is one owl you can always count on. Plus, let’s be real, having an owl is one sure way to achieve wizardom, so what’s not to love.

Number 4 - Toothless (How To Train Your Dragon)

If Game of Thrones, Pete's Dragon and How to Train Your Dragon are any indication, dragons make great pets. You’ve got fire breathing, flight and, in toothless’ case, extreme cuteness. Dreamworks really brought it with this animated trilogy, thanks mainly to the relationship between hiccup and toothless. We see them learn and grow together over the course of three movies, and unlike normal animated sequels, the characters actually age, making you connect with their epic story even more. Now… can anyone direct me to Berk?

Number 3 - Bailey (A Dog's Purpose)

This movie is the ideal for any pet owner. For a lot of us, pets played a large role in our childhood. But unfortunately, that means a lot of us have had to say goodbye to our best friends. Bailey is the ‘what if’ dog. What if animals were reincarnated when they died? What if they made their way back to you. A Dog’s Purpose answers both these questions among many others as we follow the story through the eyes of a canine. A truly heartfelt look at how important a pet can be in your life, A Dog’s Purpose will have you longing for all those lost pets.

Number 2 - Babe

Do animals have dreams? Philosophists have debated this topic for years and yet the answer was in front of them all along. They simply had to look to Babe. The story of a pig who dreamt of being a sheepdog Babe is a classic for animal lovers. Easily one of the most iconic, charming and heartfelt films of the 90s, Babe is so much more than a pig. With groundbreaking visual effects and a distinctly Australian tone, Babe has continually proven that pets have so much to offer their owners.

Number 1 - Every single pet from The Secret Life Of Pets

Have you ever wondered what your pet does while you aren’t with them? Well wonder no more as The Secret Life of Pets endeavours to answer this question. The film follows Max, a spoiled terrier who's comfortable life is forever changed after his owner adopts another dog. However, don’t let the delightful animation fool you. The movie explores important themes like pet care and animal bonding as well as some sad realities. Don’t forget about the sequel either, which pairs perfectly with its predecessor.
