Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes is back with his nineteenth studio album ‘Flesh & Blood which is truly a family affair in every aspect possible. With his wife, son, daughters and son-in-law all contributing to the writing and recording process, they organically capture the essence of what this album means to Barnes himself. Inspired by the unbreakable bonds that bind us to our family through all the highs and lows, they’ve come together to show the world who they are as a family and it’s a wholesome but still bluesy-rock affair.
With seven new original tracks, there are also 3 covers with ‘Love Hurts’ by The Everly Brothers, ‘Tennessee Waltz’ by Pee Wee King and ‘This Is The Truth’ by Don Walker which further explore the albums themes. And over the lockdown period recording covers with his family was something Barnes did to spend time with them, and the deluxe edition of the CD includes a DVD of some of his favourite recorded covers for you to watch over and over again including ‘Hello, Dolly!’ and ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’.
Out of the new original tracks the powerful ‘I’m Coming Home’, the Bon Jovi reminiscent ’Around In Circles’ and the emotional title track ‘Flesh And Blood’ which is dedicated to the late Michael Gudinski, immediately standout and highlight the diversity behind this record. But it’s the self-doubt anthem ’Til The Next Time’ that impressively stands out by showing a softer side to his vocal range and a raw vulnerability to his songwriting.
