Is Fatal Attraction worth the 4K UHD upgrade?

Is Fatal Attraction worth the 4K UHD upgrade?

Paramount Pictures and Viacom have been doing a great job in recent years, releasing some of the biggest films from the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s on remastered Blu-Ray's and 4K UHD releases. This month they took aim at Adrian Lyne’s 1987 horror/thriller classic ‘Fatal Attraction’ starring Michael Douglas, Anne Archer and Glenn Close. The film follows a married man, Dan Gallagher (played by Michael Douglas), who’s infidelity comes back to haunt him, as a one-night stand begins to stalk him. This film has always been regarded as a classic in the genre and for good reason. The fear surmounted by the idea of being stalked by an ex-lover, is quite terrifying and grounded, especially back in the 1980s. The themes of this film remain relevant today, as the film plays more on psychological horror than supernatural and extravagant horror. To celebrate the film's release on 4K it's time to revisit the film and see if it still holds up, or if it has fallen a victim to time. Is Fat Attraction worth the 4K UHD upgrade?

I can safely say that ‘Fatal Attraction’ has never looked better than it does with this 2022 remaster. The film itself still holds up on a narrative and thematic level but on a technical level, it is never looked or sounded better. The mark of a great 4K UHD release is the heightened colour, the high dynamic range of the image and the improved sound. All of these aspects are outstanding with this new release. The clarity of the picture is truly extraordinary and as someone who didn’t get to experience this film in a cinema, I am glad the film has been restored to a point that it would closely emulate the experience audiences had back in 187 seeing this one on the silver screen.

The film itself, as mentioned, still remains to be a solid thriller. The idea of someone stalking you, from a mistake made is quite terrifying and serves as a great message to be faithful to your partner! Glenn Close is suitably terrifying in the role of Alex Forrest, one of Horrors scariest villains, because she feels so damn real. One could argue, this is Close’s best performance in her entire career. The actress was nominated for an academy award for her turn as this character. Michael Douglas is also great, with the actor showcasing why he was one of Hollywood’s most sought after leads in the 1980s and 1990s. Similar to his turn in Basic Instinct, the actor knows exactly how to convey fear, concern and how to lead a damn movie.

Fatal Attraction is still one of the best thrillers ever made. It is tense and keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire runtime. The film is filled with great performances, with Michael Douglas, Anne Archer and Glenn Close all at the top of their game. If you’re on the fence whether you should upgrade your DVD or Blu-Ray copy to the 4K UHD version of the film, then ask no more. This is a must own for film collectors. Head on over to your local Sanity or online today to pick-up your copy.
