With her Manic World Tour put on permanent hold because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Halsey had her schedule fully cleared. It was speculated by fans that she would be working on music and by the time restrictions lifted she would probably have a new album to co-tour with ‘Manic’. Fast forward to July 2021 and the singer-songwriter has confirmed those rumours with her fourth studio album ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’ slated for a August 27 release.
Earlier this year she announced her pregnancy with boyfriend Alev Aydin, and this album is a concept record about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth. On her last record she revealed that she has been pregnant before and had a miscarriage which affected her deeply, so it’s expected that this record will be an emotional affair as she explores her new pregnancy with the trauma from her past resurfacing, but also celebrating the beauty of pregnancy in its entirety too.
Collaborating with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from Nine Inch Nails who also composed the soundtracks for ‘Gone Girl’, ‘Bird Box’ and ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the cinematic flair is truly expected to dazzle. Halsey has always had a very visual take on music through the use of interludes, worlds and storylines guiding listeners, so this is a very exciting collaboration.
While no singles or promotional tracks have been released yet, make sure you stay tuned to hear just how Halsey, Reznor and Ross explore these themes sonically.
