Fast 9 - Thoughts On The Trailer

Never has there been a film franchise that has evolved over time as the ‘Fast & The Furious’ films have. The film started as a harmless ‘Point Break’ rip-off but has slowly devolved into a superhero film of sorts, just without the superheroes. And I don’t mean this in a negative way at all. The franchise is constantly finding new ways to entertain its audiences and the release of Fast 9’s trailer, re-iterates that fast 9 will be doing exactly that once again. The trailer was a lot of fun, providing fans with new gadgets, the return of Han who has been resurrected after his death in &Fast and Furious 6’.

The film introduces Dom Torettos long-lost brother Jakob played by ex-wrestler John Cena. He looks to be the main antagonist of this new film, with the big-bad from Fate of The Furious Cipher (played by Charlize Theron) returning as well. Cena is perfect casting; he is charismatic as hell and I feel he will play off our group of heroes really well. The film also introduces some new technology that we previously have not seen in the franchise with Cars now with Magnets on them. By the looks of things, the introduction of this new technology will provide some very fun and over-the-top action sequences, which is why we watch these films right?

The current roster of our heroes is great too. We have a good balance among the characters we have at the moment. After Paul Walkers, untimely death in 2014 and the franchise decided to retire his character Brian O’Connor, which was heartbreaking to many fans, but completely understandable. After this,  collectively audiences were concerned to see what would happen with the cast of characters and so far, they have done a great job. I am excited to see Han back in the film and it looks like he will be receiving a lot of screen-time.

The franchise is also finally going to space. At the end of the trailer, we get a final sting with Tyrese Gibson’s character Roman and Ludacris’s character Tej heading off into space. This is something fans have been campaigning for, for a number of years and it appears that it is finally happening as the final trailer stings show both characters heading off into space on what appears to be a space shuttle. I am all for this, if you are going to go over the top and keep the franchise alive and fresh, then this is the way to go. This will propel the franchise to new heights (no pun intended).

The trailer has me very excited for this installment and I cannot wait to see it on the big screen. Check out the trailer if you haven’t already, its 2 and a half minutes of popcorn fun.
