Crowded House - Dreamers Are Waiting Album Review

It’s been 11 years in-between albums for Crowded House and after announcing a second split it was seeming unlikely that we would ever get another album from them. But then they started announcing some reunion shows and hope was restored. But that run of dates eventually got postponed due to COVID-19, and we lost that hope again. BUT then we got a single and an album announcement and that record is now here. *breathes in deep*

‘Dreamers Are Waiting’ is an intimately penned record that stands strong next to their already established discography. Starting with the light and soothing stylings of ‘Bad Times Good’ they bring together this fully visioned soundscape that continues their storytelling of life, love and loss.

There are the upbeat moments like ‘Playing With Fire’, ’Sweet Tooth’, ’Whatever You Want’ and ’Love Isn’t Hard At All’ which will be perfect songs for their live set that you can singalong to with the ones you love standing next to you. And then there are the more introspective tender moments like ‘Show Me The Way’, ’Goodnight Everyone’ and ‘Too Good For This World’ which are relatively stripped back.

This is an album that fans of the iconic New Zealand group never thought would come, but it’s one they will be so glad that did. It’s a great embodiment of who they are as musicians and sees them reclaiming their strengths as writers.
