Anne Marie - Therapy Album Review

To be honest we probably all need to go to therapy, and for Anne-Marie writing and recording her sophomore studio album was a cathartic form of it within itself. The poignantly titled record ‘Therapy’ is a collection of twelve tracks that explore vulnerable moments in her life as well as the celebratory moments of learning to let go and being confident within who she is.

Continuing on from her acclaimed debut album ‘Speak Your Mind’, this album punches a whole lot of personality. Opening with ‘X2’ she immediately sets that tone with the lyrics “Have you ever seen a bitch, ever seen a bitch, seen a bitch lose it?” over a gritty pop beat that highlighted a similarity to ‘Bad Girlfriend’. From there she tells an ex lover that; “While I’m leaving, see you staring. Go ahead boy, you can kiss my, uh-oh” on the album’s pure standout ‘’Kiss My (Uh Oh)’ with Little Mix. With the energy notably already high, the singles ‘Don’t Play’ with KSI and Digital Farm Animals, and ‘Way Too Long’ with Nathan Dawe and MoStack add that extra punch.

But then she takes the empowering album to a more emotional place with the anthemic ‘Who I Am’  and the heartbreakingly honest ‘Better Not Together’ which are also immediate standouts in their own right. Sonically this album follows in the same vein as ‘Speak Your Mind’, and she creates some moments of big euphoric singalong’s that are going to come to life on her upcoming world tour.
