We’ve waited seven years for a new album from The Veronicas, and to make it up to their fans who have been incredibly patient, the Brisbane twins decided to released two new albums this year. In May they released their fourth studio album ‘Godzilla’ which was a dark and experimental body of work that sonically felt like it sat somewhere in between ‘Hook Me Up’ and their self-titled record. Now their fifth studio album ‘Human’ is here, and this twelve track collection is a polished pop affair that explicitly explores their vulnerable songwriting.
Opening with the painfully tender ‘Without You’ they cement the heartbreaking storytelling of toxicity and heartbreak that this record honestly embodies. With their vocals as the songs centrepiece they will emotionally drawn you in before they get experimental with their pop soundscapes.
‘Lies’ featuring MUKI is a hyper-pop influenced moment that directs them into unapologetic territory that helps make songs like ‘Jealous’, ‘Out Of Time’, ‘Human’ and ‘LA’ big standouts. Behind the pop production though is strong storytelling and personal unraveling’s that address some of those big tabloid headlines you’ve read over the past few years.
With their singles ‘Biting My Tongue’, ‘On Your Side’ and ‘Think Of Me’ making an appearance on this album, there are some big pop singalong moments that you were missing on ‘Godzilla’ which will make this a must have for your CD collection.
