10 Things You Didn't Know About Ghostbusters!

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is available for pre-order will finally arrive on DVD and Blu Ray on July 3.

In the meantime, we’ll happily keep ourselves busy re-watching the other Ghostbusters movies and brushing up on our Ghostbusters Trivia knowledge. We’ve listed a few lesser known facts about the franchise below

  1. Original Title: Did you know the original working title for "Ghostbusters" was "Ghost Smashers." The film's name changed to "Ghostbusters" after the creators secured the rights to the title.

  2. Slimer's Inspiration: The ghost Slimer was inspired by the late comedian John Belushi. Dan Aykroyd, who co-wrote the film and starred as Ray Stantz, based the character on Belushi's wild and unpredictable personality.

  3. Marshmallow Scene: The memorable Stay Puft Marshmallow Man scene used 500 gallons of shaving cream for the "explosion"! The filmmakers considered marshmallow but opted for the more practical alternative.

  4. Reitman's Real Ghost: Director Ivan Reitman claimed to have had a paranormal experience while shooting the first film. He said he felt a cold presence and heard strange noises while filming in the New York Public Library.

  5. Bill Murray's Ad-Libbing: Bill Murray ad-libbed many of his lines in the movie. His spontaneous comedic style added an extra layer of humor and unpredictability to the character of Peter Venkman.

  6. Winston's Expanded Role: Ernie Hudson's character, Winston Zeddemore, originally had a much larger role in the film. However, his part was significantly reduced in the final script, leaving Hudson with fewer scenes.

  7. Ecto-1: The iconic Ghostbusters car, Ecto-1, is a converted 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance. The car has become a symbol of the franchise and is instantly recognizable.

  8. Sigourney Weaver's Audition: Sigourney Weaver secured her role as Dana Barrett by improvising her audition. She performed an elaborate scene in which she turned into a dog, showcasing her commitment and creativity.

  9. The Theme Song: Ray Parker Jr. wrote the famous "Ghostbusters" theme song. The catchy tune became a massive hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and staying there for three weeks.

  10. Animated Series: The success of the first film led to an animated series called "The Real Ghostbusters," which aired from 1986 to 1991. The show expanded the Ghostbusters universe and introduced new characters and ghosts.
