Following on from a number of years of unique and highly-acclaimed projects – Songs That Made Me, Love Song Circus, Songbook and Songs of the Southern Skies with Karin Schaupp – this celebrated singer songwriter is ready to share her new original material. Katie is thrilled to work with a band again, returning to her first love and harking back to the days of George after several solo, duo, ensemble and cross platform collaborations in recent years. This new album is Katie's first contemporary release since 2010's Katie Noonan and the Captains and features an exceptional cast of musicians including Stu Hunter, Declan Kelly, Bree Van Reyk, Cameron Deyell, Miro Lauritz, Bjork collaborator Manu Delago and more.
The result is an exploration of electronic sounds and textures, matched with Noonan’s unmistakable voice. “In the Captains there were samples and stuff, but this explores that territory a little more. I bought this very cool vintage drum machine and we played around with a lot of synths – it’s been about opening up the sound a little more.”
Transmutant still takes in a lot of sonic terrain, from the slow-build of opener Falling Into A Lie to the layered guitars and percussion of Quicksand, through the back-and-forth of The Name of the Father (a duet with rising star Jordan White) and the slow-pulse of Peace Is My Drug to the playful percussion of the closing Cloud of Home.
