The Voice Of Freedom: The Early Years 1957-61

The record traces her path from conventional supper-club balladry on her early Liberty and Riverside recordings - featuring stellar collaborations with arrangers and musicians like Benny Carter, Kenny Dorham, and Sonny Rollins - to the daring, politically charged avant-garde masterpieces of her later Candid years. Showcasing essential pieces such as "Love Walked In," "Afro-Blue," and the unflinching protest anthem "Driva' Man," this vinyl collection serves as an essential tribute to a visionary artist who redefined the boundaries of jazz singing and left an enduring legacy as an eternal symbol of freedom and truth.
