Stand Aside

Stand Aside - here come the MIGHTY BEARS!

Thats been the catch-cry and the dream of North Sydney Bears fans for over 25 years now since this foundation team left the NRL in 1999.

However, in a remarkable turn of events, the BEARS ARE BACK from hibernation and ready to re-enter the NRL in 2027 as The Perth Bears.

One of the greatest players North Sydney ever produced is Greg Florimo - this hugely popular and powerful footballer played a record 295 games for the North Sydney Bears and represented his state of New South Wales in State of Origin and his country in 1994/1995. His career ended in England playing for Wigan and Halifax in 1999-2000.

Whats more, Greg has also been instrumental in the return of the Bears, and has worked tirelessly since his retirement in 2000 to have his beloved club returned to the NRL... That dream has now come true.

Stand Aside is Greg Florimos incredible story of his life in rugby league as told to the Daily Telegraphs Ben Horne.

This lavishly illustrated 288-page hardcover book also outlines his early years playing for McMahons Point, to his debut with The North Sydney Bears and beyond, but most importantly, Stand Aside tells us about the many trials and tribulations of working to secure the return of the black and red Bears to the NRL competition.

With a Foreword by NRL CEO Peter VLandys AM, and first-person break-outs from many of his fellow North Sydney teammates and those he played against, and comments from those within the NRL hierarchy he worked closely with to secure the Perth Bears position into the NRL, this stunning tome has been a longtime coming, and who better to tell the tale than North Sydneys favourite son, Greg Florimo.
