Making Ned Kelly

Award-winning author Sophie Masson delivers an enchanting story about the world's first feature-length film, The Story of the Kelly Gang, a unique take on Australia's enduring fascination with Ned Kelly.

When Babette Rossi learns that a biograph about the Kelly Gang is being filmed in Melbourne, she knows she must find a way to be a part of it. Babette has always dreamed of working in filmmaking, though she knows her parents will take some convincing.
Charlie Peel is sure that Babette wants to steal his chance to play a part in the film. For Charlie, the film is his moment to prove to his stunt-riding parents that he belongs on the stage.
After Babette makes an unlikely new friend with connections to the film's producers, and Charlie realises she's more interested in what's behind the camera than in front of it, the two children figure out that working together might just make both their dreams come true.
