Intersections of Crime and Health

Crime and health are deeply connected, yet they are too often studied and addressed separately. Intersections of Crime and Health brings together leading and emerging scholars to explore how structural inequalities, spatial dynamics, and public policy shape health and well-being across the United States.

Drawing on interdisciplinary research from criminology, sociology, public health, and policy studies, this volume shows that the relationship between crime and health is shaped by where people live, the resources available in their communities, their exposure to violence, policing, and incarceration, and the policies designed to respond to public crises. The book highlights how structural inequalities produce overlapping patterns of risk and vulnerability, offering insights into more effective interventions and policy responses. Accessible to scholars, students, policymakers, and practitioners, this work underscores the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in addressing complex societal challenges. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue in the Journal of Crime and Justice.
