Making Revolution Irresistible in Socially Engaged Art

Making Revolution Irresistible in Socially Engaged Art explores artmaking as social change practice, offering liberatory approaches to creative praxis and arts education from around the world, and challenges to Europcentric views on aesthetics and audience engagement.

The book examines three areas of consideration in socially engaged art: traditions, education, and practice. It highlights useful case studies, critiques neoliberal artistic practice, and showcases the ways dance, theatre, music, documentary film, visual arts, and archival and curatorial praxis can challenge settler-colonialism, imperialism, white supremacy, capitalism, and cisheteropatriarchy. Addressing decoloniality, authenticity, and liberation, it demonstrates art’s power in driving social transformation.

This volume is essential reading for cultural organizers, students, educators, and scholars in socially engaged art, liberatory struggle, and arts practice.
